Changes from the original version

The new Sugar Mountain is more interactive, allowing selection of any song, venue, city, state, band, album and tour to find information on the related performances. Hover your mouse over items to see if more detailed information is available.

The search capabilities have been expanded.

A fixed search panel has been added.

A crude statistics section has been added.

A limited discography has been incorporated into the site.

Lyrics have been added.

Enhancements planned

Identifying the band configuration (solo vs. band) and instrument played by Neil on every song. This will allow you to identify/search for things like all solo piano versions of Winterlong or all versions of The Needle And Damage Done on electric guitar.

Cleaning up and expanding the Statistics section.

Add more information under the Album section.

The Album release dates are currently missing from the year pages. I hope to fix this.

Known problems

I don't yet distinguish between London, England and London, Ontario, Canada.

The Debuted Songs listings are displayed inconsistently.

Shows recorded/unrecorded statistics improperly count the shows not yet played.

The band and the instruments played by each band members is generic for an entire tour, rather be specific for each show.

Statistics related to songs played as medleys such as Dance, Dance, Dance>Love as a Rose or Pardon My Heart>The Old Homestead are not correct.

I've tested on Safari 3 & 4, IE 6 & 7 and Firefox 2 & 3. I'm not sure how all of this works on older browsers.

Inconsistancy on the number of a times a song was played between the Statistics page and the individual song page.

Caveats

This site is compiled from the best available information from circulating recordings, online concert reviews, magazines, newspapers and fan recollections. I don't have access to Neil's tape archives. I've done my best to be accurate but of course errors are likely throughout. I welcome any corrections.

I have not included any data from Buffalo Springfield and Squires periods and have minimal data from the 1968-1969 Solo tours and the early 1969 Crazy Horse tour. See the definitive Ghost On The Road if you are interested in those eras.

Due to missing data, some of the statistics may not be quite accurate. For example, the first known performance of some of the older songs are likely wrong as the original performance may have been during one of the aforementioned Buffalo Springfield, Solo or Crazy Horse tours. Similarly, in some cases the number of performances of a particular song may be a little low. In general, most of the missing data is before 1976 and you will find later years much more complete. Again, I welcome any additional information.

I welcome any suggestions on system enhancements, but I will confess to being a little over my head on the technical aspects of the new site, so changes may happen slowly while I continue to learn.

Technical

The database is MySQL and the scripting was done with PHP.
